Mr. RIM 

Support sought: Bond and/or release request  

Country: Chad 

Language: Arabic 

Case summary: Mr. RIM is a man in his 20's from Chad who recently entered the United States. Mr. RIM is afraid to return to Chad because of the persecution he faced for being a part of the Gorane tribe, and for being a student active in anti-government demonstrations. Mr. RIM is eligible to apply for asylum, withholding of removal, and protection under the Convention Against Torture, although the current asylum ban would likely apply to him. He has a cousin in Washington who may be able to serve as his sponsor. Mr. RIM seeks an attorney to represent him in his bond case so that he may pursue his asylum application from outside of detention.

Mr. MAA

Country: Palestine – Considered "Stateless" by ICE/EOIR 

Language: Arabic 

Case summary: Mr. MAA is a man in his 20's from Palestine who recently entered the United States. Mr. MAA is a Palestinian refugee, registered with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). Mr. MAA's immigration court documents list him as stateless. He is experiencing extreme stress and anxiety because he has not been able to contact his family, making detention even more challenging. Mr. MAA is eligible to apply for asylum, withholding of removal, and protection under the Convention against Torture. Based on his entry date, he will likely be affected by the "Securing the Border" asylum ban. RMIAN has not assessed his case for possible exceptions. Mr. MAA seeks an attorney to represent him in his merits case so that he may fight to remain safely in the United States.  

Mr. MAY

Language: Arabic 

Case summary: Mr. MAY is a man in his early 20's from Chad who recently entered the United States. Mr. MAY is afraid to return to Chad because he was arrested and tortured after participating in peaceful protests following the assassination of the leader of his political party. Mr. MAY is eligible to apply for asylum, withholding of removal, and protection under the Convention against Torture. Based on his entry date, he is likely subjected to the "Securing the Border" asylum ban. RMIAN has not assessed his case for possible exceptions. Mr. MAY seeks an attorney to represent him in his merits case so that he may fight to remain safely in the United States. 

Ms. MBM

Country: Colombia 

Language: Spanish 

Case summary: Ms. MBM is a woman in her 20's from Colombia who recently entered the United States. Ms. MBM is afraid to return to Colombia because of physical and sexual violence she has suffered because of her sexual orientation. Ms. MBM should be eligible to apply for asylum, withholding of removal, and protection under the Convention against Torture. She has a conviction in Colombia that could impact her eligibility for asylum and withholding of removal. However even so, she would remain eligible for CAT. Ms. MBM seeks an attorney to represent her in her merits case so that she may fight to remain safely in the United States.  

Mr. RAV

Country: Dominican Republic 

Language: Spanish 

Case summary: Mr. RAV is a man in his 40's from the Dominican Republic (DR) who recently entered the United States for the second time in two years. Upon entry, he passed a reasonable fear interview making him eligible to apply for withholding of removal and protection under the Convention Against Torture. Mr. RAV is afraid to return to the DR because he has been threatened and beaten by the police multiple times. He has a medical condition and believes he needs a surgery which is making detention even more challenging. Mr. RAV seeks an attorney to represent him in his merits case so that he may fight to remain safely in the United States.  

Ms. RMR

Country: Mexico 

Language: Spanish 

Case summary: Ms. RMR is a young woman in her teens from Mexico who recently arrived in the United States after a second attempt. Ms. RMR is afraid to return to Mexico because of her family relationships and gender. She was sexually assaulted by a cartel. Ms. RMR passed a reasonable fear interview and is eligible to apply for withholding of removal and protection under the Convention Against Torture. She is hoping to reunify with her mother, who is living in Indiana. Ms. RMR seeks an attorney to represent her in her merits case so that she may fight to remain safely in the United States.

Ms. MTF 

Support sought: U-Visa (Certification and subsequent application) 

Country: Mexico 

Language: Spanish 

Case summary: Ms. MTF is a woman in her 40's from Mexico who has been in the United States since the early 2000's. She has three USC children. All three of her children live with various ailments or disabilities, requiring many doctors visits and access to specialized care. Ms. MTF is eligible to apply for a U-Visa due to a reported murder attempt against her. She has a conviction that should not impact her eligibility for a U-Visa. Ms. MTF seeks an attorney to represent her in her U-Visa case so that she may fight to remain in the United States and be reunited with her USC children.

State Court Cases - Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) Predicate Order

Youth 145: 18-Year-Old Honduran Boy Needs Legal Representation due to Abandonment & Neglect 

Relief: Guardianship Order & Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) Predicate Order in Arapahoe County         

Language: Spanish    

Immigration Hearings: None scheduled.     

          

Youth 145 lived with his mother in Honduras. His father left them for a new family and refuses to recognize Youth 145 as his son and has never financially or emotionally supported him. Youth 145 entered the U.S. in December of 2023 alone. He has been in the care of his stepfather since February of 2024 and is eligible for SIJS. His stepfather needs legal representation to seek a Guardianship Order and an order making findings regarding eligibility for SIJS. Upon obtaining the predicate order, Youth 145 could continue to be represented by the pro bono attorney or else will be represented by a RMIAN attorney to pursue SIJS with USCIS and other available immigration status.
