Pro Bono Team Intern
Spring 2026

RMIAN is a nonprofit organization that provides free immigration legal and social services to individuals in immigration detention and to children and their families throughout Colorado. RMIAN is committed to providing educational opportunities for undergrad and law students interested in pursuing professions in the field of immigration advocacy.  

Internship Overview: 

RMIAN has an opening for a Pro Bono Team Intern to work 15-20 hours a week beginning on Monday, January 12, 2026, or Tuesday, January 13, 2026, through or before May 2026. RMIAN may be able to adjust end dates as well as the number of hours worked per week, but must onboard interns on one of the dates listed above. The position is based out of RMIAN’s office in Westminster, Colorado. The intern must be able to come into the office two or three days a week, Monday through Thursday. The intern will be supervised by RMIAN’s Children’s Program Pro Bono Coordinating Attorney and will support the Children’s Pro Bono Program which refers nearly 100 cases to pro bono attorneys each year, while providing mentorship, support, training, resources, and recognition to many more volunteers. 

While this position is unpaid, RMIAN is happy to coordinate with your academic institution if course credit can be offered for participation in this internship or to certify work for any outside funding source.  

The Ideal Candidate: 

  • Is a student or recent graduate of an undergraduate university or college. 

  • Is available to work two full days (or two and a half days) or one full day and two half days each week on Monday through Thursday.

  • Is proficient in English and Spanish (other language proficiency will also be considered). 

  • Is committed to the principles of human equality, treats everyone with dignity, and can effectively and compassionately work with people from diverse backgrounds.  

  • Is interested in learning more about the US immigration system and/or non-profit organizations.   

  • Is competent in Microsoft Office; has experience with database systems (e.g. Excel or other spreadsheet programs), project or task management software, and administrative office experience (e.g. filing, mailing, printing, scanning, etc.).

  • Is excited to innovate and streamline administrative processes and contribute to efficient workflow in a fast-paced environment.  

  • Has good communication skills (oral and written), is not afraid to ask questions, and can successfully manage multiple tasks and projects at once.

Primary Responsibilities (may vary depending on current needs): 

  • Write short summaries of cases to help with recruitment of pro bono attorneys  

  • Work independently to support administrative work, including data entry, updating systems, and streamlining processes.

  • Assist in planning volunteer gatherings, such as training and appreciation events  

  • Regularly check hearing dates for referred clients using an automated online system. 

  • Check in with volunteers via email to request case status updates.

  • Research, compile, and develop resources to share with pro bono attorneys (for example: written materials, PowerPoints, video trainings, etc.) .

  • Coordinate translation and/or interpretation requests for our language access program.

Location: 

This position is in-person and based out of RMIAN’s office located in Westminster, Colorado. The position is not available remotely. 

Other Experiences/Training Opportunities Included, if desired:  

  • Gain a nuanced understanding of the US immigration system;  

  • Observe Immigration Court hearings and debrief with legal advocates about their work;  

  • Observe Know-Your-Rights presentations, legal screenings, and/or hearing preparation sessions provided to people detained at GEO/ICE facility in Aurora; 

  • Meet live or virtually with attorneys, social workers, paralegals, or other staff members depending on your interests to gain insight into different career paths.
